God has really protected us this year and I can not say enough about how wonderful her teachers have been. I was very nervous to put her in public school but God knew just the right teacher to help make me feel better and to help Addison stretch herself, develop more independent and confident ways and help develop an understanding of how to just enjoy being silly. Ms. Powell is a teacher that truly cares about her job and feels privileged to be doing what she is hired to do and this attitude shows in everything she does. She is very creative and enjoys a more arts bases classroom which included theater, detailed story telling, creative writing, painting, exploring and a ton of singing. For the Foote house this is PERFECT! We are very arts centered and the girls have a lot of Kenny's musical passion in them. By having a teacher that tough in a way that Addison felt comfortable with and that made her not feel like there was always a "right" way to do things has really helped bring her out of her shell. She is still the same Addison and will battle the urge of necessary perfection her entire life but I think that Ms. Powell has given her a wonderful life lesson on balance.
Addison has been reading in the class all year but would never read to me at home. Whenever I asked she would shy away and refuse. I did not push the issue and knew it would come soon enough. Finally last week she offered to read me a book...and then another and another. I was so impressed and can not believe how far she has come. She is reading right along and currently loves reading anything Fancy Nancy. I love that we have another special activity that we can enjoy together and that will be lasting memories for a lifetime!
Lastly, Addison has always enjoyed just about everyone her age and this year was no different. But this year we had a chance to learn about how to share our feelings and help others compromise for the sake of the groups interests. She also had her first experience with a social situation that could not be resolved. It was such a blessing to me to watch her handle these situations with such compassion and grace. She was so sweet and is quick to think of the other persons feelings.
Kindergarten was a great experience and I again am reminded of the blessing and gift I was given when God gave me Addison as my daughter! Way to go Addison....First grade here we come!
